Common Symptoms of a Neuropathy are:
Your feet feel Numbness or Tingling sensation
Feeling that your sock is rolled up under your toes
Shooting pains in the toes or feet
Loss of balance
If so, you may have neuropathy.
At Blackwood Clementon Foot Specialists, our Podiatrists can perform a simple skin biopsy in which we will determine the concentration of small nerve fibers in your lower extremity. This allows us to diagnose and effectively treat your condition.
Treatment for peripheral neuropathy includes nutritional supplements, prescription medications, injection therapy and in some cases surgical procedures to release swollen and compressed nerves.
NEUROMA (MORTON’S NEUROMA)
A neuroma is an enlargement of the nerve that provides sensation to the toes. This enlargement can be due to poor foot structure, poorly fitting shoes or trauma to the feet.
Common Symptoms of a neuroma are:
Pain between your toes
Pain in your forefoot
Pain when you put weight on the ball of your foot
Swelling between your toes
Numbness or Tingling in the ball of your foot
If so, you may have a neuroma.
Treatment for neuromas typically includes padding, custom molded orthotics, oral anti-inflammatory medication, cortizone injections or alcohol sclerosing therapy which usually eliminates the need for surgery. If these conservative treatments do not relieve the symptoms, surgical excision may be performed.
